Solving Unable to Open or Edit a Document in SharePoint 2010

Sometimes when we open our SharePoint 2010 document library, we get the error message like this

Error 1:

If you click Edit in application name, you receive the following error message: The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document
Error 2:

If you click Check Out and Edit, and then click OK, you receive the following error message: This document could not be checked out. You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user.

How to Solve the Problem:

Please follow this steps:
1. On the Documents tab in the ribbon, click Check Out.
2. Point to the name of the document, click the down arrow, and then click Edit in application name.
